As an artist and self-defined symbolist, I always like to take on the challenge of putting familiar visual motifs into a new context. In my most recent oil painting “Ascension” (oil on canvas 48×60 cm), I take up the theme of the Lamb of God.
I wanted to create a lamb that radiates strength and resilience, a creature that can defend itself to counter the notion of a sacrificial lamb or innocent lamb. That was the starting point for this painting. The lamb, in brilliant white, stands in contrast to a dark, stony environment full of challenges and difficulties, which the lamb encounters and breaks through.
This painting is intended to encourage people to reflect on the invisible inner forces within themselves and others and not to judge them according to the external. It is important to recognize your own strength and not be intimidated by external circumstances.
